Fukamushi Sencha —

 Rich, Full‑Bodied Premium Green Tea

This high‑grade sencha is made from first‑harvest tea leaves that are deeply steamed and then fired at a high temperature. By blending five to seven carefully selected tea varieties, it achieves a dense, mellow sweetness and a deep, full-bodied flavor.

Fukamushi sencha is a type of Japanese green tea that is steamed for two to three times longer than regular sencha—about 90 to 120 seconds. This extended steaming softens the tea leaves and breaks them into finer particles, resulting in a rich, mellow, and deeply flavorful cup.

Because the leaves become finer, nutrients such as beta‑carotene, vitamin E, and chlorophyll are extracted more easily into the water, allowing you to enjoy more of the tea’s natural health benefits compared to standard sencha. Fukamushi sencha has recently gained attention for its potential role in supporting health, including helping prevent cancer, metabolic syndrome, and arteriosclerosis.

Tagashira’s fukamushi sencha is made from first‑harvest tea leaves from Kakegawa, Shizuoka. The leaves are deeply steamed, fired at high temperature, and then blended from four selected tea varieties. The result is a premium sencha with a rich, full-bodied flavor and restrained astringency.

Recommended water temperature: 70°C

How to Store Japanese Tea (Guidelines for Best Freshness)

For the best flavor, we recommend purchasing an amount you can enjoy within about one month.

1. Air (Oxygen)

Exposure to air reduces vitamin C and catechins. Store tea in airtight containers and take out only the amount you need.

2. Moisture

When adding tea leaves to a warmed teapot, moisture on the spoon can dampen the leaves. Make sure the spoon is completely dry before use.

3. Light (UV)

Direct sunlight or clear glass containers can cause discoloration and deterioration. Keep tea in a cool, shaded, well‑ventilated place.

4. Odors

Open packages absorb surrounding smells, which can affect the tea’s quality. Seal tightly to prevent odor transfer and minimize air exposure.

5. Heat

Temperatures above 30°C can cause the tea to lose its color and freshness. Ideal storage conditions are 55–65% humidity and 0–5°C. Lower‑grade teas are generally stored at room temperature.
